Letter to My Unborn Daughter

Princess,

Princess I know that you hear a lot of talk from classmates and friends about status, power and money when referring to potential spouses but I don't want you to get caught up in all of that. Although I want you to make your own decisions and find your own path I want you to know what type of man that I pray finds you so... take my words and hold onto them until an opportunity arises for you to apply them to your life (or not). There are five simple things that I ask that the man that God sends you have and they are:

1. Respect for you

I want you to have a man that respects you because if he does, he will look to get to know and understand the boundaries that you have set for yourself and he will do his best not to cross them. Although his views on some things may not be the same, the will accept you as you are and respect who you are as in individual. He will understand that any changes that you decide to make will reside within yourself first and will be manifestations of your own desires.

2. Love for God

I want you to have a man that loves God, because love for God requires sacrifice and restraint and it takes character to do these in a day and age where it is popular to do the opposite. A man of God, of character and of valor will have principles and a solid foundation upon which to build a family.

3. Love for you

I want you to have a man that loves you because a man that truly loves you will sacrifice his own happiness, time and resources to ensure that you have all of her needs and some of your wants met. A man that loves you will make comprimises that he wouldn't normally make like skipping the football game to cook you dinner or to spend quality time with you.

4. Goal- oriented mindset

I want you to have a man that is goal-oriented because a man that is goal-oriented will make plans instead of constantly acting on sudden impulses and desires. This type of man will give you and your family a sense of security, because in times of unexpected calamity you and yours will be protected to the best of his ability.

5. Family-oriented mindset

I want you to have a man that is family-oriented because if he is, he will do his best to get to know his family so that he can identify and attend to their needs, even they those needs aren't outwardly expressed or obvious to others.

Of course this isn't a complete list, because not even your father knows everything and this is the bare minimum that you should expect from a man. Live your life and search yourself and continue to better yourself and make your daddy proud and like a diamond in a ruff your prince will find you.

With love,

Your Dad

Alton Terrance Edmond
